Some key features of D3.js are:

  1. Use of Web Standards: A highly powerful visualization tool in order to create interactive data visualizations. It exploits the modern web standards like SVG, HTML, and CSS to create data visualization.
  2. Data Driven and its elements: It uses static data or fetches it from the remote server in various formats to create charts. It dynamically generates elements and applies styles to the elements.
  3. DOM Manipulation: It allows manipulating the Document Object Model (DOM) which is data-based.
  4. Custom Visualizations: D3 has no standard visualization formats. Therefore, it allows creating anything from an HTML table be it Pie chart, graphs, bar charts or geospatial maps. Since it is web-based, it gives complete control over visualization features.
  5. Transitions: The transition function is internally powerful as it works out the logic to interpolate between values and find the intermittent states.
  6. Interaction and animation: Animations from one state to another are fast and responsive in nature to user interactions by using functions like duration, delay, and ease.
